A2 Key (formerly known as Cambridge English: KET) is a basic level qualification that shows you can use English to communicate in simple situations. B1 Preliminary (formerly known as Cambridge English: PET) is an intermediate level qualification. It shows you are able to use your English language skills for work, study and travel. Every year, thousands of people who want to use English to improve their work and study prospects take these exams. Cambridge English exams are recognised by over 20,000 universities, employers and governments around the world.

B2 First (formerly known as Cambridge English: FCE) is an upper-intermediate level qualification. It proves you can use everyday written and spoken English for work or study purposes. Choosing B2 First enables you to study in English at foundation or pathway level, work in an English-speaking environments and live independently in an English-speaking country. C1 Advanced (formerly known as Cambridge English: CAE) is an advanced level qualification. C2 Proficiency (formerly known as Cambridge English: CPE) is the most advanced qualification. It proves you have achieved an extremely high level in English and that you are able to study or work at the very highest level of professional and academic life as well as communicate with fluency and sophistication, similar to the level of a native speaker. Cambridge English exams are recognised by over 20,000 universities, employers and governments around the world.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an internationally recognised English exam for education and employment. You can take the IELTS test all year round, all over the country. There are two different options: the Academic paper (for people who want to study or train in an English-speaking university) and the General paper (for people who want to work in an English speaking country). IELTS is the most popular English language test in the world. Over 2 million of IELTS tests are taken every year.

If you want to become a British citizen, you need to pass the Life in the UK test. This computer-based test is a requirement for anyone seeking Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK or naturalisation as a British citizen. It consists of 24 questions covering topics such as British society, government, everyday life and employment. It is to prove that the applicant has a good understanding of British life and is proficient in the English language. The test is a requirement under the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002.
